Loops of thread have a soft, raised texture, a little like the pile of a rug. On petals that texture looks right. A punched sunflower or rose has depth that a flat print does not, and the direction you punch in changes how the light catches it.
The simplest punch needle flowers in the range are single blooms on a plain canvas: a sunflower, a poppy, a tulip, a daisy. They are rated Easy and are a common first kit. Further along there are potted flowers, wreaths and bouquets, and then garden scenes with many petals and leaves, which are rated Medium or Detailed.
You can also choose a mini set with four small flowers that hang together as a group.
Punch the outline of each petal first, then fill it by following the curve of the outline inward. The rows of loops will echo the shape of the petal and make it look more natural than straight rows would.
If you like botanical designs, the plant and cactus kits are close relatives, and several animal kits feature butterflies and birds among flowers. Or see all punch needle kits.
A single flower on a plain background, rated Easy. There are only a few colors and the shapes are large.
Only if it is numbered. On most single flowers the background stays as plain canvas. Bouquets and scenes often have a punched background.
Single canvases come in five sizes from 8 × 12 in to 24 × 32 in. Mini sets come as four canvases of 6 × 8 in or 8 × 12 in.
